GLORY DAYS by Julian Hardyman (Senior Pastor of Eden Baptist Church, Cambridge.)
Many believers subconsciously divide their lives into Christian activities (church, prayer, Bible study and evangelism) and everything else - the glory bits and the rest.
Julian Hardyman shows that God is just as interested in our work and family, our hobbies and skills, our politics and sporting prowess, as the things we think of as spiritual.
'Glory Days' will sharpen our senses, awaken our dormant creativity and help us reclaim vast areas of our life for Jesus.
Each chapter ends with a few questions, which could be used for group discussion.
There's a lot more of interest in this book that can be put into the above summery, so take a look inside it.
KEEP GOING! by Neil Martin
In the preface, the author explains how at 25 years old he suffered a collapsed lung followed by Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. During the following eight years of slow recovery he read and lot, struggled with questions concerning the Christian faith, and decided to write this book.
Whether or not we are struggling or doubting at the moment, it is important to grasp the fact that struggles like this happen.
The book looks firstly at what the Bible has to say about the place of struggles in Christian experience, and secondly, how this biblical material can be used as a weapon to tackle some of the most common and important examples; divine sovereignty, human accountability, the authenticity of the bible, does God exist at all?
[PS: I 'struggled' with the layout of the book, until I found the structural outline given at the back! (I would have liked it at the front!)]
REDEEMING LOVE - a novel by Francine Rivers.
A powerful retelling of the book of Hosea, set in California's gold mining country in 1850.
