Book 1
INTELLIGENT CHURCH by Steve Chalk with Anthony Watkis
Because some of Steve's ideas are challenging and unusual they may cause an adverse reaction. However, I think this is a good wake-up call, which causes the reader to think through the way we 'do church' and evangelism.
A very readable book - and it's not just for leaders in the church.
Book 2
90 MINUTES IN HEAVEN, by Don Piper. A true story of death and life.
On the way home from a conference, Don Piper's car was crushed by a truck that crossed into his lane. Medical personnel said he died instantly. While his body lay lifeless inside the ruins of his car, Piper experienced the glories of heaven, awed by its beauty and music.
Ninety minutes after the crash, while a minister prayed for him, Piper miraculously returned to life on earth. His faith in God was severely tested as he faced an uncertain and gruelling recovery.
The experience dramatically changed Piper's life.
This book offers a glimpse into a very real dimension of God's reality. It encourages those recovering from serious injuries, and those who are dealing with the loss of a loved one.
Book 3
MARKED FOR LIFE - The story of a survivor of the Columbine High School massacre in 1999.
Chrystal Woodman Miller graphically recounts the tragedy in which she was involved, and how it proved to be the ultimate wake-up call for her.
At sixteen she found herself at a crossroad of fear and faith.
It took a long time for her to recover from the trauma, but now she is devoting herself to travelling the world to share her powerful story of faith and hope through her own experience. Her journeys started with the victims in Kosovo through the organisation 'Operation Christmas Child'.
(NB: Don't read this if you're sensitive or squeamish.)
Book 4
FAITH LIKE POTATOES - The story of a farmer who risked everything for God.
Angus Buchan is a tough, straightforward South African farmer of Scottish extraction, whose gentle but uncompromising faith has carried him through drought, financial crisis and family tragedy.
Called by God to preach the gospel, he has found the Holy Spirit working through him in amazing miracles of provision, healing the changed lives.
