WAR AND GRACE - Short Biographies from the World Wars.

I opened this book up in the centre and found a fascinating account of the life of Charles Fraser-Smith who, it transpires, was the inspiration for the fictitious James Bond character ‘Q’ and his famous gadgets. [taken from page 100]
Nothing was known about Fraser-Smith’s wartime activities until he was quizzed about them in 1977. The result was a book about those revelations, which was sub-titled “The ‘Q’ Gadget Wizard of World War II”.
Although that book outlined most of what he accomplished he was disappointed that it did not mention his strong personal Christian faith. Subsequently Fraser-Smith wrote three further books which rectified this - and all after he was 80 years old!
This book contains a dozen other fascinating stories - the thing each person had in common was that God was at work in their lives.
Also contains many photos and illustrations.

IF YOU COULD ASK GOD ONE QUESTION by Paul Williams and Barry Cooper
Rico Tice says (on the back cover)

“If you’ve ever wanted to ask God a question, there’s a good chance you’ll find it answered carefully and compassionately inside this book. And for those of us who long to offer hopeful, loving, truthful answers, this book couldn’t be more welcome. I wholeheartedly recommend it.”

This little book is written in an easy-to-read, down-to-earth way which is hard to put down once started.

THE MERMAID IN THE BASEMENT by Gilbert Morris

A fictional, mystery story set in London in 1857.
“A wealthy widow of a nobleman, daughter of a famous scientist, and skeptic who only trusts what can be proven. Meet Serafina Trent. A woman about to take 19th Century London by storm.”
