SIN, SALVATION & SHADOWMANCER
the life of G.P. Taylor (author of ‘Shadowmancer’) as told to Bob Smietana.

‘If G.P. Taylor didn’t exist, you couldn’t make him up! - A drug-taking teenager punk who became a social worker, then later a policeman and Anglican priest.’

The author of the astonishing books (‘Shadowmancer’ etc) which were written as the Christian alternative to Pullman’s ‘dark’ fiction, has lived a roller-coaster life. When Taylor sold his motorcycle to publish his first book himself, who would have thought he’d have a bestseller on both sides of the Atlantic?

Adrian Plass says about the book:’Sad, funny, honest, inspiring and distractingly readable. I so enjoyed this book’.

I found it eminently readable. [ES]

IS RELIGION DANGEROUS?
by Keith Ward.

Having failed, in the introduction, to define ‘religion’ satisfactorily, the author addresses the main question in relation to those defined as ‘world religions’.

The subject is tackled under four main headings:
Religion and Violence
Are religious beliefs Irrational?
Are religious beliefs Immoral?
Does religion do more harm than good?

An intelligent and insightful book, looking at the evidence from history, philosophy, sociology and psychology to address the question: does religion do more harm than good?

In spite of the long words (!) this is a very readable book. [ES]

WHY I JUMPED
My true story of postnatal depression, dramatic rescue and return to hope, by Tina Zahn.

On July 19th, 2004, an amazing story, accompanied by incredible video footage, broke across network and cable news programs in America. After a high-speed chase to the top of the Tower Drive Bridge in Wisconsin, a young woman stopped, got out of her car, walked to the edge of the bridge Ð and jumped.

“This is a compelling story of unimaginable suffering in a young life. It is not a book of self-pity, but of self-searching. Tina Zahn comes, painfully, to the wonderful understanding of God’s acceptance and love for her, bringing peace and hope that only he can give.” (Fiona Castle on the back cover)
