1. Sailing
on the Norfolk Broads - 12 May 2001
Organised by Danny Church this event lived up to its reputation as a great day
out. Though chilly, the sun shone and all thoroughly enjoyed the day together
with a fish and chip supper afterwards at Potter Heigham. Five yachts and a
motor cruiser were hired and everyone enjoyed a day out in the open air.
2. Punting
on the River Cam Cambridge - 16 June 2001
This event was organised by Simon Jackson, and though the weather was not too
good, a happy evening was had by the 70+ people who turned up for the annual
punt along the 'Backs'. Twelve punts were hired out and Schloer and strawberries
were provided for each punt. A fine meal was provided by Andrew & Ashlea
Proudfoot afterwards
3. Garden
Supper - 7 July 2001
This annual event was co-ordinated by a team comprising Paul Rydon (who was
unable to attend), Mark Kingston, Simon Jackson and Linda Long. Over 100 came
to enjoy a Garden buffet provided by chapel members and friends, followed by
a great magic show by John Archer. We were disappointed at the minimal Christian
message which was presented, though the evening proved most enjoyable.
4. Coach
trip to Great Yarmouth - 19 August 2001
This event was organised by Elizabeth and Andrew Scott, who kindly stood in
for the Proudfoot's who were on holiday at the time. Due to holidays and the
fact that it clashed with Andrew Cannon's pre wedding 'stag weekend' it was
less well attended than in previous years. As a result the trip made a loss
of about £100 which was defrayed from Church funds. Nevertheless, the
30 or so people who went had a great time.
5. Harvest
Dinner - 6 October 2001
This event was organised by Paul Rydon with Margaret Wilson as Head Chef and
Simon Jackson as Head Waiter. As always many others helped to make this a real
occasion. 90+ people sat down to a 3-course meal comprising mushroom wraps,
followed by roast beef, pork and lamb (with vegetarian alternative) and fruit
crumble and cream as desert. Over coffee and chocolate mints we listened to
a challenging after dinner talk by John Martin who spoke under the title 'Care
for the people and Care for the land'. The dinner is by invitation only and
is financed from church funds.
6. More
Magic - 10 November 2001
Organised by Mark Kingston, Paul Rydon and Simon Jackson, with Jenny Noades
as Head Chef, the popularity of this event surpassed our expectations. We expected
50, catered for 70, and 85 attended. After a chilli and jacket potato supper
The Great Gardini treated us to half an hour of his amazing tricks and then
presented the Christian message through a rope trick. Every one loved the evening
especially the children.
7. New Year
party - 5 January 2002
This event will be, as always, by invitation only and will run from 8 pm to
11 pm.
The games organiser has yet to be appointed, but as usual, attendees will be
asked to provide the party buffet.
8. Walk
thru the Bible - 9 February 2002
This event is being organised by Paul Zanreps and will be held during the day
on a Saturday. Please watch TC times for details.
9. Christianity
Explored - 28 February 2002 for 10 weeks
This course will be run by the elders on 10 consecutive Thursday evenings. It
is hoped that this will provide many opportunities for evangelism and discipling.
Everyone is encouraged to attend the first course.
10. Spring
Lecture - 23 March 2002
Next year's Spring Lecture will comprise a supper followed by a talk by Doug
Harris of the Reachout Trust. The topic is yet to be agreed, but could be a
discourse on the Islam religion or on the Jehovah's Witnesses cult.
11. Away-Day
for Christianity Explored - 6 April 2002
This will be held after the 6th Thursday of the course and will comprise a whole
Saturday at the St Barnabus centre, near Bishop's Stortford.
Future events will include:
12. Garden Supper in late June or early July 2002
13. Breakaway
2003 at Letton Hall in Norfolk one or two week's after Easter.
